MUSIC AND LYRICS BY MARK J. MIDDLEMISS
BASED ON THE NOVEL BY OSCAR WILDE
♦♦♦
Dorian Gray is a young, wealthy and extremely attractive young man living
in the often hedonistic world of upper class victorian London.
After having a portrait painted of himself by the accomplished artist
Basil Hallward, he makes a wish and is granted with the gift of
eternal youth and good looks.
~
As he grapples with the notion of possessing immortality, the picture
growing old instead of him, Dorian descends, with the assistance of
his greatest friend, the witty, influential and cynical aristocrat
Lord Henry Wotton, into an ever more debauched lifestyle of
increasingly questionable morality, the painting all the while
absorbing his sins and wrongdoings into it’s canvas.
~
Based on, and faithful to the original text of the
classic 1890 Oscar Wilde novel. This new musical,
penned by musician and lyricist Mark J. Middlemiss is heavily
inspired by the dark, classic, operatic musicals of the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Set in two acts, twenty years apart and with a traditional style
sung-through score, classic staging ...and a delicious overture!
